who yearns harder, alhaitham or kaveh?

this is the second part of the ask i received! the first part discussing alhaitham's yearning is here!

Before moving onto their current relationship in-game, kaveh’s yearning will be explored. I think kaveh’s ‘yearning’ was more his hurt and his mourning over one of the most substantial relationships in his life, as alhaitham effectively filled in the familial role kaveh was missing after the passing of his father and his mother leaving to Fontaine, additionally kaveh also considered alhaitham to be his 'best friend' before their argument

in his voice line kaveh mentions that if they were as close as they used to be he would thank alhaitham for helping him out, meaning that he would have no hesitation in being open with and trusting of alhaitham

Additionally, there’s a romanticism in kaveh using the idea of ‘the universe’ in relation to him and alhaitham, as it seems that fate has led them back together, which for kaveh, is both a negative and a positive due to their differences and the issues these differences have caused, where they were once the cause for the deepness of their bond

Kaveh appears uncertain of why alhaitham would want him around, as alhaitham has seemingly rejected him in the past, so there is nothing he can conceivably offer, and this question is left unanswered

This uncertainty in their relationship can be seen in how kaveh consistently complains about alhaitham, all the while acknowledging that alhaitham has helped him. this creates a parallel in his hangout where kaveh states if he didn’t care about his work, he wouldn’t be so torn up all the time, which can be linked to his treatment of alhaitham (especially as this is from the same route as the talk with alhaitham in the library), which kaveh equates to loving something

Direct parallel or not, I think that alhaitham is equally as important to kaveh as kaveh is to alhaitham, only that due to kaveh’s misconception of alhaitham’s motives, past and present, this regard of alhaitham manifests in a way that can be misinterpreted as dislike, but kaveh’s care is explicit where he asks twice if alhaitham is okay after the encounter with Siraj, in him bringing takeout home for alhaitham, and in him worrying that alhaitham isn’t getting the interaction he deems as necessary when alhaitham misses the group dinner

post-parade of providence, they now stand as equals, and kaveh is open with and trusting of alhaitham, enjoying their conversation in actively telling alhaitham about his day, and offering to help alhaitham research, rectifying their past thesis in cyno's second story quest (which i explore more here and here)

kaveh now actively seeks alhaitham out, which is shown in an odd textual mystery,  where the first thing he wanted to do is inform alhaitham of what happened, which contrasts with kaveh’s claims previous that he doesn’t care what alhaitham does with his spare time, so long as it’s away from him

now kaveh serendipitously bumps into alhaitham in port ormos in nahida’s birthday event, and says that he’s glad they did since he was meaning to talk to alhaitham about his plans, even though he believes they’re completed and 'foolproof' - simply because he wanted alhaitham’s opinion

Overall, I think they’ve both yearned although in different ways, but I am a firm believer that alhaitham fell first, and kaveh fell harder. I think kaveh’s actions of seeking alhaitham out are explicit in this new arc for them, and this highlights alhaitham’s initial pursuit of kaveh in earlier story beats.

They’ve both finally reached the stage where they can reach out to the other, and have this be reciprocated, and they’re just as intolerable as ever <3333

One of the classes I'm taking is History of Early Civilization and I'm really looking forward to week four when our schedule says we'll be covering Mesopotamia and Judaism. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that it will be good 😭

headcanon: soundwave's birthplace and upbringing

Inspired by his description in Cybertron where he is described as 'a spy and saboteur for Planet X', and 'a poor communicator', paired with the concept art of "The Art Of Prime" where he is intended to be 'very alien in terms of design details', and an assortment of other details scattered in more iterations, I indulged an idea that strays my Soundwave from general canon:

Soundwave is not from Cybertron.

They come from a foreign place, unlike the majority of the robots in the Autobot and Decepticon war, who hail from there. It is a shy planet, Labamba, a moon that culturally thrives on music and dance. An indulgent, well-thought-of headcanon world from my imagination. This post covers:

✦ Musically-centric, its inhabitants are no different, recognized throughout space by their unique abilities over all forms of sound. Like Cybertronians, they are mechanoids. Their alt forms, however, are dedicated and geared towards playing music, such as cassette players, rather than being vehicles. This makes Labambans a rarity across the universe, and the idea of owning a music box for one's own indulgence makes them all the more irresistible. Unfortunately, this subjects them to being gifts and offerings to other creatures, resulting in some being kidnapped from birth or when they are developed.

They combat this by training a select few as their retrieval unit. However, the Labambans trained for this corps end up being less than graceful when it comes to dancing, a biological trait within all members of this planet that is reflected in their social customs. (A detail that is elaborated on in a later point.) Another individual hailing from here is Autobot's very own tape player, Blaster, a retrieving unit soldier.

When it comes to the attire of this planet and its living beings, Labambans often showcase as much mesh as possible and are comfortable with the idea of nudity (however this works with a mecha character). As can be seen, Soundwave wears the least amount of armor out of all the robots in Prime. They love displaying the bioluminescence of their bodies, which is otherwise concealed in their armors and tucked in their mesh cables, seeing these inner workings of the body as a work of art. Only taking up forms of music players, there isn't much metal on them to convert into body armor like Cybertronians.

(An artist who worked on his design stated that there are 'no humanoid vehicle parts, even though he scanned one', giving off the notion that the vehicle Soundwave is supposed to be is that of an imagined one rather than an actual, existing one.)

✦ Labamba, compared to Cybertron, is a relatively small planet, being more moon than anything. This limits them to one singular language, albeit it is a bouquet of dialects, for when isn't music a universal concept? They believe in music, and so they sing when they communicate, in a metaphorical sense. Smooth-flowing and melodious, it is primarily syllable-timed, where all parts of their sentences are pronounced equally with no sharp notes, like a song with rhythm. It is a constantly evolving language, where anyone can alter the flow of their pronunciation. The Labamban language is esoteric, but if one desires to learn the dialect, it is, in fact, easy to follow and entertaining to learn.

A divine symbol of femininity with deep connections to one's psyche, the moon passes on her essence to the mechas of Labamba, making them highly leveled empaths. With this energy, they can understand even species beyond their own, making them excellent translators. (This can be seen in Transformers G1, Carnage in C-Minor, where both Soundwave, alongside Blaster, were the only ones who understood the inhabitants of Eurythma, an alien culture built entirely around music.) Being so sensitive, though, makes them more prone to adopting small species such as mini-bots, casseticons, and beast-form mechas.

A Labamban's vocal cords are precise and velvety, designed to interact with something as tender as the psyche of all living beings; the vocal cords concentrated in his neck make Soundwave susurrate when they speak. Soundwave's vocal delivery is different than that of a Cybertronian.

✦ Anyone born on this planet holds an innate desire and reverence for dance. As mentioned earlier, this is part of their biology. They indulge in dancing, including it on a variety of occasions in their lives, such as celebrations, storytelling, courtship, and, fascinatingly, in their fighting styles.

Prime Soundwave, in a battle with Wheeljack, displayed a swift and graceful fighting style, evading attacks with twirls in quick succession after another.

One special and frequent reason why they dance is to lead up to the eventual singing of their love song, being taught that when one finds their significant other, they will share and create a song together. This may not mean much to others, but it means everything to a native of this planet. Without a significant other in their lives, the Labamban is in a constant state of longing, feeling empty. They make up for it by adopting and taking up any strays that they come across.

(Though it was a joke amongst the storyboard artists, one of them drew Soundwave as very eager to adopt in Earthspark. Megatron did abandon the Decepticons in this iteration-)

Except, a love song does not come by so easily. It is a long process of peacocking. The mechas of Labamba dance as part of their courtship display and are observed in all genders; their dance styles are best described as tantric and sensual, involving a tremendous amount of body language and physical contact. Admittedly, the only reason why the courtship process is so long is because Labambans are silly and sensual creatures that love entertaining the 'falling in love' stage long enough, and constantly.

You'd think a song lyric that's a full course load of philosophy, sociology, history and culture compressed into three and a half minutes and seasoned with a dash of "früher war alles besser" would be simply unbearable, but... somehow it works? I mean yes, it's still kind of heavy-handed, but to me he seems to have (at least in the music video) a sense of gently self-mocking humor, and that's what saves it.

they are canonically so interesting, being around the same age and both leaving their birth clan (feathertail stayed with greystripe in thunderclan at first.) They both left their birth clan to join a secondary clan to be closer to their other parent, Tigerstar and Silverstream. They also had trouble adapting to the secondary clan with Rowanclaw being especially mean to tawnypelt in TNP arc, and Tawnypelt seemingly have to continuously choose to be in Shadowclan.
